The first anniversary of the death of
Ekushey Padak-winning people’s song singer Fakir Alamgir will be observed
today. Fakir Alamgir died of Covid-19 while undergoing treatment at a hospital
in the capital at the age of 71 in the past year. Bangladesh Ganasangeet
Samanya Parishad will pay tribute to Fakir Alamgir organizing a program titled
Katha-Gane Fakir Alamgir Smaran at the National theatre Halls of Bangladesh
Shilpakala Academy at 5:00pm today.
Fakir Alamgir was born
on February 21, 1950. He became a household name rendering diverse genre songs,
including people’s songs, patriotic songs, and others. Fakir Alamgir started
his music career in 1966. He joined the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra as an artist
and inspired freedom fighters by rendering patriotic songs during the
Liberation War in 1971.
Fakir Alamgir founded
Wrishiz Shilpigoshthi in 1976, a music platform that took ganasangeet to a new
height. He won the hearts of music lovers by singing songs, namely Bhoy Ki
Morone, Mujib Amar Swapna Sahash, Kalo Kalo Manusher Deshe, O Sakhina, and Mon
Amar Deho Ghari, among others. He also wrote books, including Muktijuddher
Smriti Bijayer Gaan, Gana Sangeeter Atit o Bartaman, Amar Katha, Jara Achhen
Hriday Pate, and Smriti Alapane Muktijuddha. The singer received Ekushey Padak
